Spark and Spice -- Flavors of the Americas
Soli Deo Gloria will present their Spring Concert, "Spark and Spice," on May 5 at COLLEGE COMMUNITY MB CHURCH, 2529 Willow Ave, Clovis, CA 93612. (Note: NEW LOCATION) The concert will take place on May 5, 2017 at 7:30 pm.
Directed by Dr. Julie Carter, the choir will feature the rhythmic "Las Amarillas" based on a Mexican song form (Stephen Hatfield) , as well as a dynamic traditional Spanish folk song, "El Vito." and the Cuban, "Sigue" along with other tunes that have a Spanish flavor. What a perfect Cinco de Mayo celebration!
From the U.S.A., Eric Barnum's "Spark" will thrill the audience. Also, local composer, Larry Warkentine, has written a special song for our group called "Five Solos" based on themes of the Reformation. Two African American Spirituals, "Now Let Me Fly" and "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" (arranged by Stacy Gibbs) will provide additional delight.
Moving further northward, "J'Entends le Moulin" and "Savory, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" are both Canadian folksongs arranged by Donald Patriquin. Both songs are designed to get your feet tapping.
Our guests on this program will include Sotto Voce, an elite group from Clark Intermediate School in Clovis, California.
Come and enjoy an evening of spark and spice on May 5! You will dance home clapping your hands and snapping your fingers after enjoying this lively evening.
