The art of Poetry comes from a series of often very formal traditions. The essential ingredients of Rhyme and Meter were inherited from pre-literate traditions, and originated as mnemonic tricks to allow for work to be passed on through memory. In the Modern era, however, these long-standing traditions were deemed to be insufficient for responding to the increasing complexity and absurdity of the world. Instead of upholding traditions, poetry became a forum for ever-expanding experimentation. We will explore some extended techniques of poetry and discuss potential avenues of experimentation, as well as the possible futures of poetry as an art form.
