Paper Grrrls: Girls and Comics (Ages 17+)
Ages 17+ Tickets are either $10 or $18 with book (You can pay for the book at the time of the class.)
CLASS: MARCH 19th We'll be discussing She Changed Comics by the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. She Changed Comics is the definitive history of the women who changed free expression in comics, with profiles of more than 60 groundbreaking female professionals and interviews with the women who are changing todays medium. She Changed Comics also examines the plights of women imprisoned and threatened for making comics and explores the work of women whose work is being banned here in the United States. This introductory meeting will serve to set a foundation for the different works well be immersing ourselves with in Paper Grrrls Society. We will highlight a few of the women featured in She Changed Comics, and youll leave with a copy of your own to take home and learn about the rest!
Bio: Paper Grrrls Society is a club for women, non-binary, and genderqueer people ages 17 and older who share a love for comics, whether reading them or creating them. We strive to create a safe space within the comics community, and want to share our love of reading and art among budding writers, artists, and readers. Each month will be focused on a book by and/or about women, followed by a group discussion. Meetings will include various activities and special guests, and the option to leave with a copy of the month's featured book.
