Singer-songwriter Rick Shea and Christy McWilson join forces and return to The Old Church Concert Hall with their own unique brand of roots/rock infused music. This time the team invites, Portland local, Zak Borden to start off the night.
Rick Shea His songs reflect the folk, country, rock and Mexican influences he grew up with. As a songwriter Shea lets the songs find their own settings. Starting out you might be hearing a song one way and then when its done realize its about something else altogether. And on his songwriting influences Shea says, When I was younger Merle Haggard cast a long shadow, but since then Dave Alvin, Jim Ringer and a lot of other music has found its way in. http://www.rickshea.com/
Christy McWilson Christy McWilson is an American singer-songwriter based in the Pacific Northwest. McWilson was among the first generation of women to follow Emmylou Harris's footsteps toward the spotlight. Christy McWilson sings her words with a survivor's joy. She has counted the costs of her life, written them down, given them voice. After nearly two decades as a singer in various Seattle-area pop and roots rock bands, Christy McWilson finally released her solo debut, The Lucky One, in 2000. christymcwilson.com
Zak Borden (Opener) Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Zak Borden has put down roots in many musical disciplines. In his late teens, he fell in love with bluegrass music. As it does for so many, the dynamic American hybrid introduced him to a world of other styles: from the country soul of The Band to the lilting dance music of Ireland; from modern string band takes on Thelonious Monk to the syncopated rhythms of Brazil. Flatpicking a guitar or mandolin, he weaves all these diverse sounds around a rich baritone voice inspired by vintage soul, county and blues. He's toured extensively around the US, Europe and Japan and makes his home in Portland, Oregon.
Captures your attention in the simple beauty of stuff going onfilled with love, lonelinesslike a favorite photo you tape to the fridge because it makes you happy when you see it. That kind of charm. -Performing Songwriter
