The Old Church is pleased to have the trio of Stephanie Scheiderman, Anna Tivel, and Samantha Kushnick perform on our stage, April 15th 2017 at 7:30pm. Blending folk, rock, Americana, classical, and pop, these three talented singer/songwriters create an eclectic explosion of beautiful harmonies, sharp song writing, and engaging melodies.
Stephanie Schneiderman Trying to pin down Stephanie Schneiderman to any one genre, talent or discipline is next to impossible. One thing is clear however- whether pursuing her prolific work as a solo artist, playing drums for all-star roots pop act Swan Sovereign (formerly Dirty Martini), stepping on the stage in the musical The Full Monty or producing a wildly successful humanitarian concert series for refugees in Uganda (raising over $70k), Stephanie Schneiderman is hands down one of the most diversely talented artists the Northwest has to offer. Since her solo career began with a coveted spot in the Lilith Fair, Stephanie has earned extensive NW radio play, a devout following and multiple appearances with some of the nations top touring acts- including Aimee Mann, Hall & Oates, Train, Pat Benatar, Chicago, Madeleine Peyroux, Heart, Andy Summers, Marc Cohen, Darrell Scott, Willy Porter, Michelle Ndegeocello and more. With nine solo recordings under her belt plus two releases with her collaborative band, Dirty Martini, Schneiderman has seen her music placed in numerous films and Primetime TV shows, as well as toured through US and Europe. Her latest album, Live At The Old Church is a departure from her two ambient/trip-hop releases with electronic producer Keith Schreiner. Playing piano and guitar, Schneiderman strips away the layers and gives fans the core essence of her songwriting and voice their raw and naked form. Featuring 45th Parallel String Quartet and a choir, she delivers a spellbinding live performance that old and new fans will revere.
Anna Tivel Anna Tivel has spent some quality hours in a dodge caravan repeating lyrical lines over and over until the words fall in time with the windshield wipers, or until the gas light comes on.
A nationally touring artist with a deep love of quiet stories, Anna is beginning to carve a place for herself in the songwriting world. She was recently chosen a winner of both the Telluride Troubadour Contest and the Kerrville New Folk Contest, placed second at the Rocky Mountain songwriting contest, and has shared the stage with heroes and friends like Gregory Alan Isakov, Blind Pilot, Anais Mitchell, Mandolin Orange, Peter Mulvey, Darlingside, Devon Sproule, Jefferson Hamer, Jeffrey Martin, and lots more.
Anna was raised in the forest and farmland of rural northern Washington and currently calls Portland, OR home. Her songs reflect both the stark colors of small town life, and the hard, sharp lines of the city. Her newest album, Heroes Waking UP, was produced by guitar mastermind Austin Nevins (Josh Ritter, Anais Mitchell, Kris Delmhorst), and released on Portlands well-loved Fluff and Gravy Records. Folk Radio UK called it, "a superb and sublime album from a voice that deserves to be shouted from the highest rooftops. Her previous album, Before Machines, was hailed by No Depression as raw, yet superbly composed and executed, intelligent, personal and deeply expressive.
Portland songwriter Anna Tivel is a favorite over at Hearth. Shes a deft, clever songwriter with a knack for observing the small, subtle beauties of our lives. Kithfolk
Samantha Kushnick Based in Portland, Samantha is a cellist, singer and songwriter in the folk tradition. She often performs original works as part of a string trio featuring violin and two cellos. Blending folk and country songs with elements of classical chamber music, they call their unique style "chamber folk". Samantha studied cello performance at the Oberlin Conservatory and has performed regularly with a number of groups in the Portland area including the Portland Cello Project, The Helio Sequence, Typhoon and the Vancouver Symphony.
