Monthly Zine Workshops ft. Mitchell Goodrich
Daddy Kool Records and KEEP ST. PETE LIT are coming together to showcase zines in monthly workshops. On the second Wednesday of every month we will have a new speaker to talk about different aspects of zines. From creating, producing to the history behind zines we hope to inspire people to create their own!

March's Workshop: The Zine Trade
The artist zine has transcended the familiar, but limiting, concept of fanzines, all the while building on the dialect and traditions of its punk roots. The practice of zine trading is perhaps the most exciting and motivating of those traditions to persist. Due to their low cost, artist zines are the easiest and most affordable introduction to art collecting for anyone, whether through purchase or trade. This workshop will discuss the artistic appeal of the zine as a commercial art object and various approaches to their content and structure. Mitchell will bring a large sampling of zines from his personal collection for the group to peruse during discussion and in-class zine making.

About the Instructor:
Mitchell Goodrich is an illustrator, designer, and zine-maker local to St. Petersburg. He received a BFA in art history from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2011, where he was introduced to the world of zines and artist books. He has since treated zine-making as his chief studio practice, participating in small-press fairs including Baltimore's Publications and Multiples Fair, the MoCCA Arts Fest in New York, Comic Arts Los Angeles, and Small Press Fair Ft. Lauderdale. Obsessed with cinema, he has also spoken on the print publications of filmmaker Chris Marker at the NY Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1 and programmed films for USF's Contemporary Art Museum.
