Santa Barbara in the spirit of Laura Nyro -- a tribute
This April marks 20 years since Laura Nyro's death at age 49 of ovarian cancer. She achieved critical acclaim with her own recordings, particularly the albums Eli and the Thirteenth Confession (1968) and New York Tendaberry (1969), and had commercial success with many pop artists recording her songs. Her style was a hybrid of Brill Building-style New York pop, jazz, gospel, rhythm and blues, show tunes, rock, and soul. Our show will include a wide sampling of Laura's discography, including the big hits (Eli's Comin', recorded by Three Dog Night), Stoney End (Barbra Streisand), Stoned Soul Picnic, Save the Country (Fifth Dimension), And When I Die (Blood Sweat & Tears).

The concert will feature Kiki Ebsen, who has appeared at SOhO for Songwriters At Play tributes to Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Carole King, and Linda Ronstadt. For over 20 years, Ebsen was heralded as a talented vocalist and gifted keyboard player, supporting Grammy-winning and platinum-selling artists, including Christopher Cross, Al Jarreau, Tracy Chapman, Michael McDonald, and Boz Scaggs. Now Kiki performs regularly in three productions she created: To Dad with Love: A Tribute to Buddy Ebsen a multimedia jazz/cabaret homage to her father, "An Evening with Kiki Ebsen," which combines her original songs and uniquely styled covers and standards with eloquent stories. She also performs with the "Joni Mitchell Project," a collection of top Los Angeles players covering the works of the legendary Canadian folk-rock songwriter. https://www.kikiebsen.com/

Special guest performers include Pi Jacobs, Jeffrey Pine , Donna Phillips, Naomi Nektare, Jeanne Newhall, Shannon Savage, Steve Key, and the duo called The Harmony People.
