Last Call at the Oasis
Jessica Yu's latest documentary is a sobering but somehow upbeat examination of the looming catastrophic global water shortage

Co-Presented by Food & Water Watch

Panel Discussion:
Steve Englebright is New York State Assemblyman, District 4, and lives in Setauket. An assemblyman since 1992, he was in the mix to protect the Pine Barrens, fought the opening of the Shoreham nuclear power plant, and is a proponent of clean, renewable energy.
Larry Swanson is assistant dean of SUNY Stony Brook's School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. As Director, Waste Reduction and Management Institute, he focuses on the long-term aspects of trash and on the uses of coastal resources.
Eric Weltman, moderator, is a Food & Water Watch organizer.

Whether the glass is half full or half empty isn't the point of the effervescent Last Call at the Oasis: It's whether there'll be anything in the glass at all. Jessica Yu's latest documentary is a sobering but somehow upbeat examination of the looming catastrophic global water shortage. The global water crisis will be the central issue facing our world this century. We can manage this problem, but only if we are willing to act now. Last Call at the Oasis is a powerful new documentary that shatters myths behind our most precious resource. This film exposes defects in the current system, shows communities already struggling with its ill-effects and highlights individuals championing revolutionary solutions. Firmly establishing the global water crisis as the central issue facing our world this century, the film posits that we can manage this problem if we act now. (USA, 2011, 105 min., color, Blu-ray  Director: Jessica Yu  Featuring: Erin Brockovich, Peter Gleick, Jay Familgietti, Robert Glennon, Tyrone Hayes, Paul Rozin  Toronto International Film Festival)
