Golf with Alan Shepard
March 17, 18 and 19, the Plaza Playhouse Theater is pleased to present a staged reading of the humorous and moving, Golf with Alan Shepard.
Written by Carter W. Lewis and directed by Maggie Mixsell, Golf With Alan Shepard tells the story of four golfers who have been playing golf together weekly for years. Griff is the WW II vet and the resident wet blanket; Milt, the most recent member of the group is substituting for his beloved dead brother; Ned is in deep grief as he is a recent widower and Larkin is an ex-priest coping with losing the trust and love of his God.
These four seniors metaphorically playing the back nine of their lives, face the aches of pains of aging and the losses that accompany the twilight years. As they move from hole to hole, we learn that they all search for some meaning of their time on earth. Tensions run between them as they playfully barb at each other, but by the end of the play we are delighted that these men have the community of lifelong friendships and a weekly golf game to help them through the final stages of life.
This one weekend production is presented as a fundraiser for the non-profit Plaza Playhouse Theater which will celebrate its 89th Anniversary in April.
Featuring Tom Hinshaw as Milt, Tony Miratti as Griff, Rich Hoag as Larkin, Jon Koons as Ned, with stage direction ready by Cami Helmuth and Bill Egan as The Microphone, Golf With Alan Shepard is presented on stage on Friday, March 17 at 7:30 pm, Saturday, March 18 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, March 19 at 3 pm. Tickets are $20 general admission, $17 senior or student and are available online at plazatheatercarpinteria.com and at the theater box office one hour prior to showtime.
