Queen Lear
It is a world ravaged by war and destruction and Queen Lear is in possession of some of the only fertile ground left. Aging and tired, she decides to divide it up between her 3 daughters so that she can give up the responsibility of defending it and be taken care of in her old age. In order to determine that division, Lear asks her daughters to tell her how much they love her and that will determine the piece they get. Naturally this doesn't turn out well. The youngest, Cordelia, refuses to play this game and is shunned by Lear. Cordelia is married off to the King of France and Lear says she will stay with each of her elder daughters, Goneril and Regan, in turn month by month, accompanied by 100 followers. The situation quickly becomes intolerable and Lear, in fury, decides to brave the elements and meets up with a madman.
In this epic story we see the themes of family, clarity of vision, leadership, corruption and love clash and resolve and ultimately teach us much about relationships, patience and loyalty.
