Synchromy - vla. - A concert of serious music for the viola on April Fool's Day
Synchromy is excited to announce our next event, and were seriously making it all about the viola. Master violists Diana Wade, Jonathan Morgan and Linnea Powell are taking the stage at Occidental Colleges beautiful and cozy Bird Studio to present vla. a program of works for the orchestras most underrated instrument. And even though its on April Fools Day, its not a joke. Seriously.
The program will include the premiere of Los Angeles-based Composer Joshua Carros [[[clouded]]] for viola and electronics, performed by Jonathan Morgan, with the composer running the electronics. Diana Wade will be performing Berios haunting Naturale for viola, percussion and recorded media with percussionist Ben Phelps. Linnea Powell will be presenting an encore performance of Noah Meites powerful new work for viola and piano To Whom Shall I Tell My Grief with guest pianist Richard Valitutto. In addition to these larger works, there will be shorter works by Missy Mazzoli, Lisa Bielawa, Garth Knox and Synchromy Co-Artistic Director Nick Norton.
The program includes: Berio - Naturale Lisa Bielawa - I don't even play the bassoon Josh Carro - [[[clouded]]] (world premiere) Garth Knox - Viola Spaces Missy Mazzoli - Tooth and Nail Noah Meites - To Whom Shall I Tell My Grief Nick Norton - Elegy II
Tickets for vla. are available online by going to www.synchromymusic.org/vla . Regular admission is $25. Students with ID are $10. Occidental Staff and Faculty are also $10 with ID. Tickets will also be available at the door, and we will be accepting cash and credit cards via Square.
Bird Studio is located in the Booth Music & Speech Building at Occidental College. There is free parking in the Booth parking lot as well as the main parking structure across Bird Road. The main entrance to the parking structure is just up Campus Road.
