Come learn how to build your own home, cottage or cabin with dry wood and mortar. It's economical, energy efficient, environmentally friendly, green, and visually attractive!
We will be participating in classroom sessions including general cordwood information, PowerPoint presentations, and discussions of the various styles of cordwood houses, as well as the various species of wood and how long to dry them. The bulk of the workshop consists of hands-on sessions that include instructor demonstrations and individually supervised hands-on practice on a sauna at Indian Pipe Technical School on Africa Mountain in Linden, VA.
Rough schedule for each day (May 5, 6, 7th):
8am - 9am: Breakfast
9am - 12pm: Cordwood building instruction & construction of cordwood sauna
12pm - 1pm: Lunch
1pm - 5pm: Cordwood building instruction & construction of cordwood sauna
You are free to do what you want with your evening. We may have some evening activities, bonfire, music, etc. on the farm that you are welcome to join.
*Instruction will be a mix of power-point presentations, discussions, plant walks, etc.
