THE MOVIE STAR AND THE MAMMY
MUSIC AND LYRICS BY DIONNE MCCLAIN-FREENEY AND BIL WRIGHT
In the satirical musical The Movie Star and the Mammy, 50's movie star Dorothy Dandridge, star of Carmen Jones, is desperate to change her historical status as a tragic suicide. She calls upon the ghost of the indomitable actress, Hattie McDaniel (Mammy in Gone With the Wind) to help her go back and change the course of history so that she is recognized as a gifted actress instead of a troubled beauty. Together they travel back through time to Dandridge change her destiny.

Emerging Artists returns with their one-of-a-kind festival. Visit the theater any evening during this three-week event, and you'll find yourself transported in a number of surprising ways: by a single performer embodying a whole host of characters; by a more experimental theater piece "done differently" that challenges and delights; by a cozy two-person show exploring relationships; or perhaps by a bouncy new musical that will have you humming. Emerging Artists has always been about new works, new talents, new voices. That's never been more evident than now.
NO REFUNDS will be granted.
