Marina & The Specks plus No Mothers @Charslanding
Marina & The Specks: psychedelic opera folk.
Sprouting from classical, jazz, soul and theatrical roots, this is a folk trio with a Psychedelic Opera twist! Marina writes about life, death, stormy weather, alley cats, and cosmic love. Spencer Symington joins in on electric guitar to add intricate ambiance, while John Kastelic shreds elegant and torrential magic on his viola, sings back-up harmonies & dances with foot percussion. Combining dynamic vocals with provocative storytelling, this is a show to cheer the heart, heal the spirit and arouse the senses.

No Mothers: fiddle folk rock.
John and Tony Kastelic left their home in the southern Alberta prairies and made their way to the west coast, forming No Mothers on the audacious hunch that a band fronted by two violists could folk-rock with the best of them. Drawing on their classical training, a background in fiddle, their innovative song-crafting skills, and a taste for the raw and groovy, the Brothers K lay claim to a sound that is unequivocally unique. Let's face it -- stereo-viola folk rock is a bizarre and delightful stretch of the imagination.
