There will be exercise handouts and a video (sent later) to keep. =========================================================== From Rev. Gary Davis Ragtime to country blues, Andy Cohen has mastered material from before the 1920's to about the 1950's, and ranging over the several states to which Memphis is adjacent. He came of age during the 1960's revival in Massachusetts, but he's a Southern boy at heart. Andy made a point of acquainting himself with all the blues players he could, on record and in person. In his shows, he performs material by Rev. Davis, John Hurt, Big Bill, Gus Cannon, Frank Stokes, Memphis Minnie, Bukka White, Barbecue Bob, Charlie Patton, Ted Bogan, Henry Spaulding, or any of a hundred other blues people.
Andy Cohen grew up in a house with a piano and a lot of Dixieland Jazz records, amplified after a while by a cornet that his dad got him. At about fifteen, he got bitten by the folk music bug, and soon got to hear records by Big Bill Broonzy and the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, both of which reminded him of the music he grew up to. At 16, he saw Rev. Gary Davis, and his course was set. He knew he had it in him to follow, study, perform and promote the music of the southeast quadrant, Americas great musical fountainhead. Although he's done other things-a certain amount of writing, and physical labor from dishwashing and railroading to archaeology, playing the old tunes is what he does best.
Robin O'Herin is a Berkshire-based, touring blues and gospel musician, specializing in historically rich, often interactive concerts that feature original and traditional Delta blues and gospel, for small listening rooms, festivals, libraries and schools. Her instruments are bottleneck and fingerstyle guitar, ukelele and mountain dulcimer. Her concerts are warm, affirming experiences which she shares with the audience. Let her take you on a journey of musical exploration through the Delta and Piedmont regions of the South. Song selections may include Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson and Robin's own original blues and fingerstyle ballads.
Robin has shared stages with the likes of Paul Geremia, Andy Cohen and Roy Bookbinder. She is currently working on a new gospel CD and then hopes to jump right into a new blues and original CD. She teaches beginning delta and piedmont blues guitar and songwriting and partners with raisingtheblues.org and guitarsintheclassroom.org to bring the power of music into the classroom and hospitals to reach children and teachers in new and innovative ways.
