David Sturdevant's Medicine Ball Band 46th Anniversary featuring Terrie Odabi & Lady Bianca
David Sturdevant started the Medicine Ball Band in 1971, playing on the street at San Franciscos Union Square. Originally performing old time jazz, the band has evolved and transformed over the years and included legends such as Randy Jackson, Richard Howell and James Brown bandleader- saxman PeeWee Ellis. As a bandleader, guitarist-vocalist Sturdevant has taken versions of Medicine Ball all over the world and is highly regarded for his diatonic and chromatic harmonica work. He is also music director at Plymouth Church of Jazz & Justice in Oakland.
For this special occasion, David will bring members from the old street days including multi-reed players Philip Smith and John Stafford with trombonist John Hunt. The current lineup will include vocal greats Terrie Odabi and Lady Bianca, saxophonist Nancy Wright, pianist Charlie Hickox, Leon Joyce Jr on drums and some surprise guests. The Medicine Ball Band is renowned for creating big-fun music while crossing genres.
