Higher, Deeper, Realer: Improvised Storytelling
In this intermediate-level improv workshop, students will delve into building improvised scenes from the ground up. Improvisers occupy many roles on stage including actor, director, writer and even set designer. This class will delve into the interaction of all these roles in longform narrative scenes.
From the the first moments of a scene to the last, students will explore how to collaboratively build a cohesive narrative and serve to advance the scene. The course will also explore how to continually "Yes, and..." your first choices on stage, listen to and support your scene partners onstage and off, explore complex characters, endow the stage with rich environments, and build compelling stories in the moment.
Students should have taken some basic improv classes as a prerequisite for this course. This class will put to work the many different skills taught as part of our Fundamentals Wheel. If you're interested in improvised storytelling but haven't taken an improv class before check out this month's Narrative: Improv Fundamentalswith Artistic Director Michael Burns.
