Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham
Surely the finest musical interlude in the history of the Comedy Festival - the Scottish duo whose musical genius and depth of inspiration in the folk tradition has brought them international acclaim and national recognition ranging from BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Lifetime Achievement and Best Duo to an MBE each for services to music.
Having toured together since 1986 to packed concert halls all over the world, these two scintillating instrumentalists are also renowned for punctuating their concerts with their irreverent off-the-cuff wit and hilarious storytelling.
Shetlander ALY BAIN is the best known and most significant fiddle player in the Celtic tradition. He is rightly regarded as Scotland's supreme fiddler - arguably the finest of all time. A founder member of the quintessential folk group Boys of the Lough, Aly has toured extensively in America, Europe and the UK and worked with such luminaries as Eddi Reader and Richard Thompson.
Accordion player PHIL CUNNINGHAM has been named as one of Scotlands 25 most influential people and his mastery of the instrument has led to him working with the likes of Mark Knopfler, James Taylor and Rosanne Cash.
Both Phil and Aly have written and presented music on film and TV, including their leading roles in the BBCs Transatlantic Sessions. Together they represent the pinnacle of musical achievement in the great folk tradition.
"They are simply the best traditional musicians you are ever likely to hear" - The Glasgow Herald
