SAVE INTERNATIONAL VALUE ENGINEERING PROCESS AND METHODOLOGY
PRESENTED BY JOHN LANGER, AVS
Value analysis (engineering) resolves to balance functionality and quality while reducing project costs. It enables well-founded collaborative decisions on project strategy, scope, and key components of design. If started early in the conceptual phase and carried through to the successful completion of a project, value management can lead to significant savings in the project schedule, staff time required to manage the project, capital and lifecycle costs, and improved quality. Thus, value analysis can play a role in improving teamwork by enabling a singular focus, project ownership, and "buy-in". This presentation will discuss the beginnings of Value Engineering (VE), laws and policies at the federal and state level, how and when to apply VE, the Value Engineering Job Plan, and the current state of VE in the world.
John Langer has more than forty-three years of professional experience with an emphasis on estimating as well as program and project management. He has performed management functions in the coordinating of activities and directing of craft personnel on projects ranging from offshore oil production facilities in Alaska and Mexico, wafer chip factories and biotechnical, to the construction of wastewater treatment facilities for both municipalities and private enterprise. Positions have included Project Engineer, Project Scheduling Manager, Project Superintendent, and Project Manager. John has also served as the Manager of Estimating and as a consultant to the construction industry. He is currently providing cost and schedule consulting services to Sound Transit, Port of Seattle, URS Corporation, several architectural firms, and small general contractors in the region.
