TMI Project Presents: #BlackStoriesMatter--Live!
Saturday, March 25th, 7:30 PM, Pointe of Praise Church, 243 Hurley Avenue, Kingston, NY

On Saturday, March 25th, TMI Project will debut #BlackStoriesMatter--Live!, a performance featuring true stories from people of color about the experience of being black in America, at Pointe of Praise Family Life Center in Kingston, NY.

"BlackStoriesMatter is our way of participating as an organization in the national outcry of injustice, amplified as a result of senseless killings at the hands of law enforcement, frequent racial profiling, and the history of racism in this nation," said TMI Project co-founder and Executive Director, Eva Tenuto.

The live performance will feature storytellers Rachel Baily, Nardia Bennett, Micah Blumenthal, Erica Brown, Shalawn Brown, Tina Lynn Dickerson, Heather Graham, Dara Lurie, Jessieca McNabb, Tameka Ramsey and Kessai Reddick. There will also be performances by Brooklyn Tech's Step Team, The Lady Dragons, and the social justice dance team from Center for Creative Education.

J.B. Childs, lead pastor of Pointe of Praise Family Life Center, said "the church is thrilled to host #BlackStoriesMatter. Our individual stories, though often vastly different, can leverage our diversity, bring us together, and allow us to embrace the priceless value of each of our lives, Pastor Childs said. It is with this vision of inclusion that we join TMI Project in what promises to be a unique and moving experience!"

TMI Project is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower people and bring about social change through true storytelling. Through this campaign, the organization seeks to raise awareness around issues of inequality and injustice and inspire people to take action.

"The movement for justice is more than a collection of talking points and policies," said Callie Jayne, a community organizer for Citizen Action of New York in the Hudson Valley, which will also be partnering with TMI Project for #BlackStoriesMatter. "We believe TMI Project's mission to lift up the voices of impacted people and encourage them to tell their stories, is an excellent way to shift the narrative around racism and injustice. We hope that this collaboration will engage more people in the work of using their stories to bring about real change."

In addition to the live event, TMI Project put out a call to people near and far to contribute to a digital version of the campaign, aimed at reaching a broader, national audience. TMI Project board member, Tameka Ramsey, has co-led the #BlackStoriesMatter planning committee and is at the helm of the digital campaign. "Racism is a personal issue that we cannot continue to hold at arm's length," said Ramsey. "TMI Project's mission with this campaign is to elevate the underrepresented stories of the black experience in America - the full spectrum - the triumphs, humor, beauty and resilience. The hardships and everyday humanity of living in a system intrinsically stacked against a unification of races, of people. We need to know each other on a human level to transcend this condition."

Those interested in participating can submit videos of up to three minutes in length or true stories of up to 250 words accompanied by a photograph. After theyre collected and curated, the stories will appear on TMI Projects website and social media pages. The campaign will first be launched online in February on TMI Projects website, TMIProject.org, and will be featured for a month before becoming a regular feature. There will be a strong social media component, with a #blackstoriesmatter hashtag on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Admission to the March 25th performance is free, but reservations are recommended.
