When hes not singing, Pat Hull pathullmusic.com, is a communications professor at California State University Chico. Listen to him sing and for the first ten seconds you will not believe your ears. But once the video and audio synch in your brain, you will agree that his voice is the ideal vehicle for the deep feelings expressed in his compelling original songs. With unpredictable hooks and interesting turns, Pats music melodic vocals and finger picked guitar create dreamy landscapes. On his newest release, In the Yellow Room, Pats brilliant, soaring voice evokes such iconic artists as Neil Young and Jeff Buckley. Backed by his bands deep, melodic instrumentation, In the Yellow Room is a raw musical statement from one of Americas freshest and most innovative storytellers.
Immediate reactions were to Hulls Neil Young-huffing-helium vocal range, but after those early assessments, we all realized that he was a goddamn genius. Portland Mercury
Garett Brennan http://garettbrennan.com/ was drawn to music and performance at a young age. His tunes conjure up the fresh snow of mountains, the clear water of his adopted home in the Pacific Northwest, and the intimacy and jubilance of jamming with some of the top players in the Americana-Roots scene. Producer Cookie Marenco (Blue Coast Records, Windham Hill Records) describes him as Woody Guthrie meets Tom Waits, an apt comparison informed by Brennans penchant for crafting original poetic songs that sound like they've been around since dust, yet are instantly familiar and of this time.
Say hello to Portlands newest performing arts venue featuring a variety of music, family shows, comedy and spoken word, classic cocktails & casual dining in an intimate, relaxed atmosphere. See our full calendar at fremonttheater.com.
