The United States subprime mortgage crisis was a nationwide banking emergency that contributed to the deepest recession since the Great Depression of the 1930s. What were the causes and consequences of the financial crisis and where are we today?
Steven W. Kuehl is the economic development and Wisconsin state director for the community development and policy studies division of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. He conducts seminars and workshops, and prepares articles and other written materials dealing with economic development, the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and fair lending laws and consumer banking regulations.
