Coming of Age, Part I: The road to resilience
Today, millions of youth are at a crossroads: In a world of crisis, they will either become a force for peace or one of continued instability. We must support them now, while they are making the choices that will determine their future. Please join us for a field update from Mercy Corps Regional Youth and Adolescent Advisor, Amie Wells, and Project Coordinator, Noura Shahed, on the work that has helped thousands of youth in the Middle East develop life skills and build peaceful communities.
About the Speakers:
Amie Wells has spent over a decade working in international development intent on building the future for youth through educational initiatives and international programs. Aligned completely with Mercy Corps focus on adolescents, Wells is particularly invested in empowering adolescent girls, witnessing firsthand the impact education and job training has on their family and community. At the moment, shes is based out of her suitcase with an apartment in Amman, Jordan, and looks forward to the coming year of scaling programming for young people globally.
Noura Shahed was born and raised in Jordan, and graduated with a Masters degree in Developmental Psychology from Lancaster University, UK. As Mercy Corps Jordans monitoring and evaluation lead, Shahed conducted research that identified youth vulnerabilities in northern parts of Jordan and the drivers behind joining violent-extremist groups.
