It will indeed be loverly. Inspired by the Greek myth of Pygmalion, in which a creator loves his sculpture enough to literally bring her to life, Appleseed Community Theatre will proudly present what many consider a high-point in the musical theater canon, Lerner and Loewes My Fair Lady, this spring. Enjoy a completely re-conceived production using only nine actors, an elegantly-spare aesthetic, and a two-piano arrangement commissioned by the shows composer, Frederick Loewe, and beautifully rendered by the famous musicals original dance arranger Trude Rittman in the 1950s. With a score featuring the classic show tunes Wouldnt It Be Loverly? A Little Bit of Luck, Ive Grown Accustomed to Her Face, I Couldve Danced All Night, and On the Street Where You Live, amongst many others, this timeless tale (based on George Bernard Shaws Pygmalion) pits flower girl Eliza Doolittle against phonetics professor Henry Higgins in a musical tilting match of language, lush melodies, and love.
