TCDG February Invitational
Twin City Derby Girls will be hosting a Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, February 18. This will consist of two full-length scrimmages that are open to the public so it will be like a very low key bout. Admission for fans is free (donations encouraged) so if you want to bring spectators, go for it!
Please bring black and white scrimmage jerseys with your number in 6" or larger, and of course all your gear. The cost to skate in this event is $10, payable online or upon arrival on the day of the event by cash/card. Sorry, no refunds.
Once you are registered, you will be added to a private Facebook group where you are free to ask any questions and we will solidify the rosters there.
The goal is that we want to bring together all of our friends from across the state and neighboring states to all skate together and have a super fun time, while TCDG is able to also mingle with our fans during the scrimmages to talk about roller derby and recruiting. Most leagues haven't started their official competitive season yet, and the world is really stressful right now, so let's all skate about it! Grab some friends from your league to carpool with you, and you can all sign up to skate together, or they can come along to watch (for free!) and drink beer.
Advanced level skaters will play first at 6pm, then the B/C level game will happen afterward. Skill levels are defined below. Please be honest in your answer about skill level because we don't want anyone to get hurt. Participation is open to skaters of all gender identities ages 18+.
Please arrive by 4pm so that we have time to get warmed up and to make adjustments to teams if needed. The address is 500 W. Church St. Champaign, IL 61822
SKATING SKILL LEVELS:
LEVEL C: Beginner C Level skaters might be beginners or new to derby, but they can skate and they are safe. They have passed the WFTDA minimum skating skills standards and are ready to start or are already bouting, usually for their home teams.
LEVEL B: Intermediate B Level skaters have passed minimum skills and have experience bouting. They understand rules and most strategies, and can usually execute them with and against familiar skaters, as well as unfamiliar opponents. A lot of skaters that cant travel but have skated several years fall in this category. They might not have a lot of experience skating on unfamiliar floors or against unfamiliar opponents, but adapt quickly.
LEVEL A: Advanced A Level skaters are currently bouting and have interleague experience; usually they are on their league's A team or WFTDA charter. They understand the rules of the game and common strategic tactics (walls, goats, triangles, offense, speeding, slowing), and can execute them with and against unfamiliar skaters. They play on their leagues travel or all-star team, A or B level (for experienced leagues). They can hold their own with the vets, or maybe they are the vets.
