SARIWA! (Fresh!)
"SARIWA!" (Fresh!) is a pay-what-you-can community dinner project between The People's Kitchen and the Filipino/American Coalition for Environmental Solidarity. This family-style dinner will feature live music, performance, and a multi-course meal honoring the living Filipino food traditions that connect the motherland to the diaspora.

In celebration of Filipino/American Heritage Month, Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, and the changing seasons, we will weave together food, music, and art to explore the stories of Filipino/American culinary traditions. The meal will be shared collectively and be infused with dialogues, political education, and a menu inspired by the stories and recipes of several generations of Filipino/American activistas, gardeners, writers, educators, artists, and cooks. The evening will also feature performances from internationally-renown performance musicians and artists.

Please join us as we celebrate the deep food traditions that nourish our bodies and souls, heal the Earth, and tell our stories of migration, resistance, and movement.

About People's Kitchen-

This dinner is the third monthly pop-up of The People's Kitchen, hosted by Cosecha restaurant in downtown Oakland. The People's Kitchen is a community restaurant that couples political education and movement building with a high-end, local, organic meal that is lovingly prepared by community chefs. Each monthly People's Kitchen raises donations for local grassroots political projects and celebrates the foods of different cultures and communities in Oakland. The goal of The People's Kitchen is not only to fill our stomachs but to also nourish our souls, feed our minds, and fuel a movement.

October's People's Kitchen will benefit the Filipino/American Coalition for Environmental Solidarity (FACES), www.facessolidarity.org. FACES is a transnational solidarity organization that has worked to hold US polluters accountable and build environmental justice between communities in the US and the Philippines since 2000.

We Invite you to pay what you can to support this food project. All proceeds will go to benefit FACES.
