Tikiyaki 5-0, The Deadbeats, The Reefriders
DJ Sid Presley presents SURF NIGHT! with...
Tikiyaki 5-0 (LA) is the smaller, combo version of the Tikiyaki Orchestra. Formed, basically, to bring the Orchestras big sound down to a pared down, smaller combo version of the group. The idea was to bring those great Tikiyaki tunes with a smaller footprint, for a more intimate setting. Comprised of original Tikiyaki Orchestra Members, Jim Bacchi - Guitar, keys, bongos, Brian Kassan Keys, guitar, Jonpaul Balak, bass, and Pablo Baza, drums, the band has morphed that original idea into more of guitar oriented, exotic surf sound, added some of that surf energy and tons of reverb, while still seeking that exotic feel to the music.
The Deadbeats - A series of house parties that were played just for fun pretty much gave birth to The Deadbeats. Abe, Jonathan and Santiago as original founders of the band later on met Ben and recruited him to join. Since then we've played a shitload of shows and house parties, including the infamous Burnt Ramen, making it our stompin grounds and becoming the local surf band. While some of us have played with a bunch of other touring surf bands ( The TomorrowMen, Mike Barbwire, Daikaiju, Meshugga Beach Party, Frankie & The Pool Boys) The Deadbeats has been our main band.
The Reefriders - The Reefriders have been entertaining music fans throughout California with their solid surf-style sounds. The three-piece instrumental guitar band serves up quite a collection of surf music including hits from the classic early 60s surf bands like the Ventures, the Astronauts and the Bel-Airs, to the red hot scorching sounds of Dick Dale. Covering surf classics like Pipeline, Misirlou, and Surf Party, the Reefriders take their audience on a joy ride through time with wild music as popularized in the movie Pulp Fiction. Just when fans begin to enjoy a taste of some mellow surf tunes, such as from the 60s cult classic surf movie "Endless Summer", or the modern tune "Talking to Trees," watch out !!!! ...... because things heat right back up with the band's creative and powerful renditions of tunes by modern instrumental legends such as Los Straitjackets, and Jon and the Nightriders, as well as other killer surf guitar classics and original compositions. It is the Reefriders' mission to transport their audiences through a sonic world where music is fun and "really cool".
