The Seasons - CYSO Gala Concerts for 2017
The Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra under the musical direction of Julien Benichou is pleased to welcome our special guests, piano soloist Hui-Chuan Chen, and the Peabody Children's Chorus, as we present The Seasons as the theme for this season's Gala. Our conductors invite the public to join us and hear how remarkably professional our talented musicians sound.
Each year CYSO hosts its annual Gala, a major fundraising event, at the Key Auditorium on the St. John's College campus in Annapolis, MD. A catered reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres, in conjunction with a Silent Auction and Raffle, kicks off both the afternoon and evening concerts. CYSO's Jazz Ensemble, conducted by Steve Fidyk, will provide spirited entertainment during both receptions.
Doors open at 12:45 PM prior to the 2:00 PM concert and at 6:00 PM prior to the 7:30 PM concert.
The afternoon concert will feature performances by the Junior Flute Ensemble, conducted by Gail Vehslage; the Wind Ensemble, conducted by Sandra Balderson; the Preparatory Orchestra, conducted by Mary Pitta; and the String Orchestra, conducted by Robert Stojakovich. The Concert Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Lande, will perform selections from Carmen Suite I by Bizet and the 1st movement of Symphony No 5 in C Minor by Beethoven. The Peabody Children's Chorus 'Choristers' will join the Concert Orchestra in performing Ralph Vaughan Williams' Wassail Song (from Folk Songs for the Four Seasons) and Samuel Barber's Sure on this Shining Night.
The evening concert will begin with the Senior Flute Ensemble, conducted by Gail Vehslage, performing five selections from Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream. The evening features guest soloist Hui-Chuan Chen in Rachmaninoff's beloved Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the CYSO Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Julien Benichou. The Peabody Children's Chorus 'Cantate' will join the Symphony in performing Debussy's Salut Printemps and Elgar's The Snow. The Symphony will also be performing Academic Festival Overture by Brahms.
Auditorium doors will open 15 minutes before each concert for seat selection.
