Arena Rhythm 'n' Jazz: A Motown Soul Jazz Revue
The 6th season of the Redwood Coast Whale & Jazz Festival includes an unforgettable Saturday night musical performance in Point Arena when the sounds of Motown fill the theater. Arena Theater presents Arena Rhythm n Jazz: A Motown Jazz Soul Revue on April 12, 2008. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with the show starting at 8:00 p.m. The theater will have a beer and wine bar as well as concessions. Tickets are $30 if purchased in advance ($35 at the box office on the day of the show, if available). This is an evening of classic Motown music and dancing as part of the 2008 Festival. A Motown Jazz Soul Revue will feature the talents of Rhonda Benin and Calvin Tillery lead vocalists, Tammy Hall piano, Jean Fineberg tenor sax, Charles McNeal sax, Cedricke Dennis electric guitar, Ron Belcher bass, Martin Green drums, with extra added attraction 13-year-old LaTonya Shorter vocals.
The music will be presented in two sets. Set I is the Norman Whitfield Jazz Suite arranged by Tammy Hall, and featuring instrumentals interspersed with vocals. Included will be such legendary numbers as "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," "I Heard it Through the Grapevine," "Papa was a Rolling Stone" and "Just My Imagination." Set II will feature Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell duets sung by Calvin and Rhonda, plus Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson songs sung by LaTonya and a dynamic Junior Walker set with the entire ensemble.
