Michael Natkin Dinner to Benefit City Fruit
Chef Michael Natkin, author of the new cookbook herbivoracious!, will host a five course dinner and wine pairing to benefit City Fruit on October 30. Around a long family-style table in Seattle's elegant vegetarian restaurant,Cafe Flora, Michael will prepare a dinner featuring local fruit in every course; he has already sourced quince, figs, rhubarb and apples grown in Seattle. Proceeds will benefit City Fruit's efforts to harvest and contribute urban fruit.
Michael's new cookbook, herbivoracious!, received the following accolade from Tom Douglas: "Michael Natkin's ability to go global sets his new book apart from the pack." Michael has spent time in the kitchens of the Canlis and Cafe Flora and is a popular food blogger.
Michael will spend time discussing the food he prepares and Cafe Flora's chef will be on hand to talk about the history of Seattle's favorite vegetarian restaurant. City Fruit's director will bring an update on the 2012 urban harvest and the food security situation in Seattle.
The evening is limited to 20 guests. All proceeds will benefit City Fruit's work in stewarding and harvesting urban fruit trees and donating fruit that would otherwise go to waste. In 2012 this amounted to more than 17,000 pounds of fruit.
