A GOOD SMOKE - The World Premiere of Don Cummings' New Play
Some families are better without a filter.

Mom says she suffers from the effects of an abusive childhood and turns her affections to narcotics and cigarettes.  The rest of the family: hard-drinking Dad, sons Dave and Joe, and daughter, Susan; have been trained to obey.  But now the balance has been upset.  Susan just had a baby and Mom isnt the center of attention anymore.  Will she stop at nothing to regain that position?  Mom drops her meds - cold-turkey - the day her daughter gives birth, resulting in severe drug withdrawal.  As the daughter is wheeled into delivery, Mom is hauled off to the psych. ward.  Dave flies in from the other side of the country and manages a shrill dose of blame.  Joe, who has never left home, retreats even further into his role as Moms protector. And Susan, sutured and exhausted, is just lost trying to cope with her own motherhood as her baby refuses to feed.  The real-life foibles of what saves the baby and how that restores the functional dysfunctionality of this family make this a monster of a roller-coaster ride.
