Asheville Brewing Company and Southern rock/country band Blackberry Smoke have made a beer together. Like an Arrow blackberry wheat ale will be released at the bands show at Ashevilles Thomas Wolfe Auditorium and at Asheville Brewings locations on Friday, February 3. The band will play a special acoustic fundraising show at the Asheville Millroom from 5 to 6 p.m. that same day, and the beer will be flowing there as well. A portion of proceeds from all sales of the beer will benefit the fundraising effort of the Shepherds Men on behalf of the SHARE Military Initiative at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia (the bands hometown). The Shepherds Men annually campaign to raise resources and awareness for injured post-911 war veterans being treated for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) at SHARE. All proceeds from ticket sales of The Millroom performance and a portion of beer sales will benefit SHARE, Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta and the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. Millroom doors open at 4 p.m., and for $22 per person, music lovers get a meet and greet with the band, an hour of live up-close performance, and a first taste of Like an Arrow aleall benefitting great causes that are close to the hearts of the band members. The beer, named for Blackberry Smokes new critically acclaimed album, Like An Arrow, is hopped with Nelson Sauvin and Mosaic to balance out the sweetness of the blackberry infusion. Asheville Brewings brew team parsed out six different ways of hopping the beer in a blind taste evaluation. Nelson Sauvin, one of the most unique hops on the market today, imparts a white grape flavor, while Mosaic is one of the most versatile of earthy hops. The result is a great combo of hops and sweet blackberry with a little pop of wheat, says head brewer Pete Langheinrich. If you dont typically think you like wheat beers, you should try this one. Its easy-drinking but well-rounded and no one element of the beer overwhelms the other. The 5.2% ABV ale will be released on Friday, February 3, at 5 p.m. at all Asheville Brewing locations, at the Millroom for Blackberry Smokes acoustic set, and at the show at The Thomas Wolfe, which starts at 8 p.m. It will be sold on draft and in 22-ounce bottles. It will also be available in limited quantities at six of the bands favorite Atlanta bars and restaurants. Like an Arrow Blackberry Wheat pairs well with Americana rock music, a juicy burger and fries, or blackberry pie.
LEARN MORE ABOUT SHEPHERD'S MEN: https://vimeo.com/167918661
Shepherd's Men have raised more than 1.2 million since the group's inception in 2014. Get involved in the 2017 campaign events to raise $2.2 million to help save 22 veterans' lives per day! Please help us support healing for our veterans!
One in five service men and women returning from Iraq and Afghanistan need treatment for these devastating conditions. Though undetectable visually, TBI and PTSD devastate service members and families who suffer with them, often leading to broken homes and suicide.
For the fourth year, the Shepherd's Men will work to raise awareness for the most common injuries affecting returning troops since 2001, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). They are also raising funds in 2017 to support the SHARE Military Initiative at Shepherd Center, Atlanta, GA, the only private program of its kind in the country dedicated to treating our veterans with these injuries and helping them return to good health and life with their families.
