Sema Ceremony offered by Mevlevi Order of America
On Friday December 7th and Saturday December 8th, 2012 at 7:30 PM, The Mevlevi Order of America will present The Ceremony of the Whirling Dervishes at the Islamic Cultural Center of Northern California, 1433 Madison Street in Oakland Ca. 94612, honoring the great Sufi Mystic Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi.
This Sema Ceremony is presented as it has been for over 700 years. The evening will feature the prayer dancing of the Whirling dervishes, in their traditional tall felt hats and flowing garments, turners whirl in union attuning to the music of the heart. Special guest Master Musicians Timucin Cevikoglu and Enes Evren from Turkey will be part of the Mevlevi musical ensemble, playing the classical Sufi music composed to create a sacred atmosphere tuning the hearts of all who listen.
