Monthly Zine Workshops ft. Gulf Coast Girls
Daddy Kool Records and KEEP ST. PETE LIT are coming together to showcase zines in monthly workshops. On the second Wednesday of every month we will have a new speaker to talk about different aspects of zines. From creating, producing to the history behind zines we hope to inspire people to create their own!
February's Workshop: This workshop will act as a beginner's guide to zine-making. We will focus on inspiration, collaboration methods, the importance of zines in the community, and basic methods like acetone transfer and collage.
About the Instructors: Amanda LaForest is an exhibiting artist creating work under the moniker The Peach Moon. Her work seeks to address the social and environmental dichotomies that are specific to a younger generation of native Floridians. Although fresh to zine making, Amanda has experience in cartooning and currently has a graphic novel in progress. She teaches painting and drawing out of a small studio in Largo, and works to organize art-related meet ups for other artists in her community.
Katie Blanchard is an at home doodler and crafter in an array of mediums including drawing, screen printing, and needlework. She has been creating illustrations capturing the emotion of her current environment, and inner curiosity of her surrounding community since late 2012, but only recently started printing them in 2016. Her zine project is part of an ongoing pursuit of comic and illustration production.
Amanda and Katie started collaborating on artistic projects in 2016, and are the creators of Gulf Coast Girls, a new zine series intent on capturing female friendships and Floridian experiences.
