DANCING SCHOOL - Sleeping Beauty
"To appreciate is to be fully aware of quality." - Harold Bloom
For the dancers, Dancing School is about learning to dance better. For the audience, its about learning to see better.
At Dancing School, you'll see five ACB dancers attempt the same solo variation. Comparing the strengths and weaknesses of each dancer, you'll begin to understand what every element of technique and artistry contributes to your impression.
Why? To borrow from Virginia Woolf, to get the deepest and widest pleasures from watching. And what are they dancing? Each Dancing School features new choreography.
Very limited seating. Each program is one night only.
It's not just the show! Enjoy wine, conversation and live jazz with the artists and other audience members overlooking the rooftops of LA's skyscrapers. It's all included in your ticket price.
* For special seating needs, please call 213-304-3408.
This Dancing School is all about style. See the ACB dancers you know joined by the seasons new dancers as they attempt to recreate the style of the late nineteenth century in one of the jewels of the most famous age of ballet: the six fairy variations of The Sleeping Beauty prologue. ACB artistic director Lincoln Jones is joined onstage by Pacific Northwest Ballets Doug Fullington, specialist in the notation system in which the great ballet was written.
Youll see these variations performed just two days after the dancers have learned them. Youll see the challenges of these famous variations in their rawest form. Then see how the dancers met those challenges and developed their roles in Junes Tchaikovsky in Ballet!
