KGNU and CFCZs Annual Mardi Gras Dance Benefit Featuring Zydeco Hipsters Curley Taylor & Zydeco Trouble
KGNU Community Radio and Colorado Friends of Cajun -Zydeco (Music and Dance (CFCZ) celebrate Mardi Gras with an evening of revelry, music and dancing with Curley Taylor & Zydeco Trouble on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Tickets are available at KGNU.org. A zydeco dance lesson starts at 7:00 P.M.; music at 8:00 P.M, and doors are at 6:30 P.M. The Avalon Ballrooms dance floor will be vibrating and shaking with enthusiasm at this annual Mardi Gras event.

Like many great zydeco musicians, Curley Taylor was born to play zydeco. His professional career began at age 16 drumming in his fathers band, Jude Taylor and the Burning Flames. Fast forward a few years later and Curley has drummed with many South Louisiana greats like Steve Riley, CC Adcock and the legendary Lil Buck Senegal. While touring with CJ Chenier, son of zydecos founding father Clifton Chenier, Curley learned to play accordion. Eventually he assembled his own aggregation and recorded record his 2003 auspicious debut Country Boy but didnt play publicly until nine months later due to obligations with Geno Delafose and French Rockin Boogie. After that, it was on as Curley became known coast to coast for his fiery, hip brand of zydeco. His music represents a crossroads between rural Creole life and modern urban hipness thats enjoyed by young and old alike.

Oskar Blues will provide delicious Cajun fare for purchase. Wine & beer will be available as will complimentary King Cake. In the spirit of Mardi Gras, there will be a costume contest with prizes. Its your time to shine and win the more outrageous the better!

This event benefits KGNU Community Radio who has been broadcasting on the Front Range for 38 years at 88.5 FM and for the last dozen years at 1390 AM.
