Sema Ceremony of the Whirling Dervishes with a Turkish Sacred Music Concert Dec. 16
On Sunday, December 16, 2012, at 3:00 pm, the Whirling Dervishes of the Mevlevi Order of America will present the Sema Ceremony honoring the great Sufi Mystical Poet, Hz. Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi, at Seattle University's Campion Ballroom. The evening will feature the prayer dancing of the Whirling Dervishes, a ceremony presented as it has been for over 700 years. In their traditional felt hats and flowing white garments, turners whirl in unison, attuning to the music of the heart. Special guest master musician Timucin Cevikoglu from Turkey will play classical and devotional Turkish music, with musicians of the MOA Ensemble from across the United States.
Paid parking is available in the Murphy garage at 11th and E Cherry street.
The last presentation of the Sema Ceremony in Seattle in 2008 sold out prior to the event. Remaining tickets will be available at the door (cash only) for $30 General. Student and Seniors (with ID) $20 at the door only on the night of the event.
