So begins Shahrazad's retelling of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, the first tale in Lumina's spectacular adaptation of the famous ARABIAN NIGHTS Entertainments. These ancient stories have never lost their power to surprise us, frighten us and make us laugh. But these are also tales with a purpose.

Brilliant and courageous, Shahrazad is staking her life on these powerful narratives to change the Sultan. If the Sultan is sufficiently intrigued by her cliff-hangers and tempted by the prospect of more exciting stories, he will not execute her at dawn. With each tale the despairing Sultan learns a little more about the world, himself and what it means to be a human being in a civilized society.

In the original Arabian Nights, Shahrazad's own story is never finished. In our version, however, she has a tale up her sleeve that even the original storytellers did not possess: the story of PERICLES Prince of Tyre.
