Global Warming Gridlock
Although global warming is a current pressing issue, international policy to moderate climate change has stalled. While international discussion on this challenge has continued for twenty years, the amount of carbon dioxide produced will continue to vary country by country as a result of economic standing, technology, and other outliers. What challenges do countries face in implementing policies that reduce carbon emissions and manage climate change? How are individual countries' national interests and capabilities taken into consideration when creating policy, and what actions can be taken to create effective policy? This is an issue that seems so large-scale that it is difficult for individuals to grasp how they can really make a difference. What can local communities do to impact and support international climate change laws?
The World Affairs Council presents a conversation with David Victor, professor at the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at the University of California, San Diego and director of the School's new Laboratory on International Law and Regulation.
