Cabaret Club: St. Patrick's Day Party
The Franco-American Heritage Center is preparing a St. Patrick's Day Celebration with live music, a traditional Irish boiled dinner, spirits and good fun. Patrons will feast on a traditional Irish meal of corn beef, cabbage, turnips, carrots and potatoes, with a flaky pastry with raspberry filling for dessert.
Tickets are $25 and include dinner and each patron's first pint of Guinness (or any other beer served at the Franco Center) along with live music from master fiddler Frank Ferrel accompanied by Maine Fiddle Camp founder Greg Boardman and his wife, Jessie Boardman.
Ferrel has made numerous appearances on "A Prairie Home Companion," a syndicated live radio program heard each Saturday night on NPR stations across the country including MPBN here in Maine, where Ferrel works as a news producer. He has recorded several CDs of traditional fiddle music, and his 1991 recording "Yankee Dreams" was chosen by the Library of Congress to include on their select list that same year of 25 Representative Recordings of American Folk Music.
