Event
2012 Georgia Jaunt
Slow Food Atlanta is excited to host our first Georgia Jaunt expedition- an exploration of Georgia's food culture.
First, we will visit the Green Family Farm where the same family has been making cane syrup from sugarcane on the land for over 100 years. And we are in luck! It is harvest season, and the Green family will demonstrate how they process the cane into syrup. Everyone will have the opportunity to participate in the process and purchase cane syrup on site (cash and checks only).
That evening, we will visit White Oak Pastures for cocktails, a bonfire, and feast on the farm prepared by Chef Robert Lupo of Leon's Full Service. Camping on the farm is encouraged or we will offer shuttle service to a nearby hotel- Bagby State Park's Lodge ($90/ night, not included in ticket price.)
On Sunday morning, everyone will gather at White Oak Pastures' on-farm restaurant for a home cooked breakfast followed by a tour of their farm and processing facilities. White Oak Pastures was established 145 years ago by the same family that farms it today. Their farm is one of two in the country with on-site, USDA-Inspected, On-Farm, Zero-Waste red meat and poultry processing abattoirs. Lunch will be served on farm and we will head back to Atlanta Sunday afternoon.
Please join us!
