"It's Time For A Love Song"

Yay!!!! It's time to celebrate LOVE!!!
Local singer/actress award-winning cabaret artist, BARBARA BRUSSELL, has returned to the Monterey Peninsula after 35 years, and will be accompanied by pianist/composer arranger GEORGE PETERSON for their Cabaret debut together!!!  This makes her second presentation of Cabaret by the Sea, here in Carmel,  previously debuting with Mark Nadler from New York City, last November.

BARBARA'S SHOW is a pot pourri of LOVE SONGS, some familiar, some not.  Her show includes special guest appearances by Internationally distinguished bass and vocal coach, LOUIS LEBHERZ,  international singer WIES NORBERG, and local singer/director, voice and music teacher, GINA WELCH. Each will be singing one of Barbara's favorites and classic love songs for the HEART!

LIVE THEATER!!!  Anything can happen!  But, you can count on LOVE SONGS, something musical, funny, possibly poignant, personal and entertaining, with great songs selected from the Great American Songbook, Broadway, and contemporary songwriters. From Cole Porter to Joni Mitchell to Craig Carnelia, Babbie Green, Francesca Blumenthal, and John Wallowitch!  Rodgers and Hart, Rodgers and Hammerstein II, Lerner and Loewe and more.  Come share in an hour, or so, of songs about LOVE and stories with Barbara and friends.

Note:  You do not have to be in a "blissful relationship" with anyone, or even yourself, to attend!!  HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!

What is Cabaret?
Kind of a nightclub act, often with a theme.  Where a singer and musician(s), usually a pianist, explore and interpret songs and tell stories in an original and personal way.  A theme could be songs of an individual composer or lyricist, a biographical or an autobiographical journey. This is an art form that began in Paris, was developed in Germany, and later was embraced in America. Today it has evolved  as an art form that draws from all music, but often from what is called, The Great American Songbook. An artist can choose any topic, or non at allstringing songs together that weave another portrait, inviting you on a musical journey and returning you perhaps a little more alive!!

MINI BIO-
BARBARA BRUSSELL has appeared on stages from coast to coast, including the famed Oak Room at Algonquin Hotel in New York City, and soloed with two symphonies. Barbara has been aptly described by New York critic Roy Sander of BackStage, Once in a blue moon an artist comes along whose talent is so striking that nothing less than shouting it from the rooftop will do!  And, Barbara epitomizes the art of cabaret singing...a consummate singer/actress..  Stephen Holden of the New York Times wrote, Projecting an off-kilter blend of zaniness and pathos that suggests the unpredictable mood swings of a RenĂ©e Zellweger character, Ms. Brussell ... is a quick-change artist who injects an element of surprise into everything she sings. ... genuinely real and touchingThe California dreamer and the New York sophisticate join hands.  Rex Reed, from The New York Observer, She is real, she is tender, she is wacky...She stamps songs with a branding iron of her own authentic invention...makes you feel like youre hearing them for the first time.  Youd be a fool to miss it!.  In a Cabaret world  Barbara Brussell is a dream come true.
