TOWARDS AN EXPANDED VISION: A hands-on workshop with Pawel Wojtasik
The workshop participants will attempt to explore the shared space that exists between the subject and the filmmaker.
We will actively engage with the surrounding reality of South Williamsburg by filming at a specific site (La Marqueta). Filming at the site and subsequently viewing our films the participants will look closely at the nature of the relationship between ourselves, both as makers and as spectators, and our subjects. We will try to find out whether that relationship is one of alterity (Self vs. Other), or of inter-subjectivity - characterized by a shared sense of self.
The workshop participants will try to examine, and reflect on, their own embodied selves as they film/investigate their subjects. Knowing themselves to be of a certain disposition, to be carriers of a set of certain personal/social internalized structures (habitus) they will practice observing themselves as they film their subjects and as they view the films they will have made.
In this workshop experience will be considered of more value than explanation.
The workshop will consist of practical exercises, discussions, and filming. Please bring a video camera of any kind along with the appropriate cable and/or other means of transferring your film onto our computer so we can project it.
