Amazonas, the name stands for the strength and courage of the women of the 21st Century. This project was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 2008. Its founder and violinist Zamira Briceno created it as an idea to play stunning and innovative arrangements of popular music with an instrumental ensemble comprised of 2 violins, viola, cello, contrabass, and percussion. All instruments together create a unique and impressive sound that is able to captivate the most diverse and demanding audience. The genres played by Amazonas Strings are widely extensive, causing admiration and delight amongst listeners, ranging from bossa nova, Argentinian tangos, and beautiful Venezuelan traditional music to Cuban son, boleros, jazz, rock and pop. Now based in the New York City area, Amazonas Strings is expanding its audience throughout the Big Apple and nationwide. Their members are working very hard now on the repertoire for their debut album, which is expected to be released in 2017.
