The Philadelphia Klezmer Heritage Show
On Sunday, February 19 at 8 PM The Chestnut Hill Community Concert Series will present a concert entitled "The Sound of Klezmer Philadelphia." The performance will take place at Beth Sholom Synagogue, 8231 Old York Rd, Elkins Park, PA 19027 The show will feature the Philadelphia Klezmer Heritage Ensemble directed by Dr. Hankus Netsky. Performers will include NEA 2007 National Heritage Fellow Elaine Hoffman Watts, Veteran Philadelphia Jewish bandleader Bobby Block, trumpeter & vocalist Susan Watts, banjoist and guitarist Barry Wahrhaftig, trombonist Dan Blacksberg, violinist Diane Monroe, bassist Steve Beskrone and clarinetist Bob Butryn. The Klezmer revival has figured prominently in are-definition of Jewish identity as an ethnic heritage in recent years, inspiring large-scale performances and major festivals in the Jewish, folk-music, jazz, classical music, and World Music communities.
