Valentine's Weekend Anthropomorphic Beetle Shadowbox Class
Today, join former AMNH Senior Insect Preparator Daisy Tainton for Morbid Anatomys popular Anthropomorphic Insect Shadowbox Workshop. One free cocktail will be provided per student.

Rhinoceros beetles: natures tiny giants. Adorable, with their giant heads and tiny legs, and wonderful antler-like protrusions. If you think they would be even more adorable drinking tiny beers and holding tiny fishing poles, we have the perfect class for you! In todays workshop, students will learn to makeand leave with their own!shadowbox dioramas featuring carefully positioned beetles doing nearly anything you can imagine.

Xylotrupes gideon beetles will be available, one per student. They measure about 2.5-3" tall when standing vertically.

Glass-sided wooden boxes will be made available to create your habitat, but students should bring any dollhouse props or special shadow boxes they would like to use. Paints(nail polish is shiny and dries quickly!) and papers for backgrounds, carpeting, and decoration are recommended.

Dollhouse 1:18 scale is generally best.

Daisy Tainton is a former Insect Preparator for the American Museum of Natural History, is currently attending graduate school, and has been working with insects professionally for several years. She has been featured on the hit TV show Oddities, and has had her work displayed at La Luz de Jesus gallery in Los Angeles, California, the National Building Museum in D.C. and more. Eventually her fascination with insects and love of Japanese miniature food items naturally came together, resulting in cute and ridiculous museum-inspired yet utterly unrealistic dioramas. Beetles at the dentist? Beetles eating pie and knitting sweaters? Even beetles on the toilet? Why not?

Tickets are non-refundable unless the event is canceled.
