Brother Sun - In Concert
Brother Suns newest CD, Weights and Wings was #1 Album for 2016 on the Folk DJ Charts. The groups highly acclaimed 2013 release, Some Part of the Truth, was on the folk charts for many weeks, and their song Lady of the Harbor, from that CD, debuted at #1.
Brother Sun is widely known for its tremendous musical diversity and its spot-on harmony. Its members -- Joe Jencks, Pat Wictor, and Greg Greenway -- each toured as a solo singer-songwriter for more than a decade before they formed the trio. Their collective musical experience encompasses folk, roots, blues, pop, jazz, and rock, and the band fuses them all in an explosion of song, both accompanied by their instruments and a cappella, in the finest of male singing traditions.
From three major points on the map Chicago, New York and Boston the three men have truly blended themselves into a unique celebration of the amazing power of singing together. Brother Sun will be suspending touring this fall, so this event is a final opportunity to enjoy their music in person for the foreseeable future.
In their own words (brothersunmusic.com):
"Together, with all of you supporting us, we've made something magical and uplifting. It's an honor and a privilege to create music together. We have made some of the best music of our lives, and performed for so many amazing audiences in so many spectacular places. Genuine magic has touched us, and we are aware of just how rare that is. . .
"We know many of you will want to see us at least once more as a trio. And we want to see you too! That is why we wanted to give you plenty of notice. . .
It's a good time to sing healing, love, and goodness into the world, and thats what we'll be doing in our last year together as Brother Sun. We also hope that you will continue to follow and support our solo careers and other collaborative projects beyond Brother Sun."
This concert will highlight local efforts to offer sanctuary to local Muslims, Latinx and immigrants. We will have information available about how to get involved in these efforts. The Standing on the Side of Love Team of the Community Church of Chapel Hill UU and the Justice Ministry of the Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (ERUUF) are collaborating on this concert.
Come join us for this very special Triangle concert at Eno River UU Fellowship in Durham, NC on the evening of April 23, 2017, 7:30 pm.
