Side Effects / Phat Beethoven
Side Effects is a comedy group based out of Boulder, Colo., specializing in weird sketch comedy. Side Effects follows the general creative model that begins with a series of weekly shows where new sketches are written each week. Then, after the series of new material concludes, the cream of the crop is selected and perfected with a more focused rehearsal period, culminating in a polished show comprising sketches that have already proven themselves in front of live audiences. So far, in 2012 we've produced 20 sketch shows.
In terms of style, Side Effects is weird and surreal. People turning into birds. Men falling in love with couches. Mothers being bitten by babies. With rabies.
AND
Phat Beethoven is four best friends who live in Chicago. They write through improvisation, blending their dark sensibility with brotherly rapport and creating a show that is honest even at its most absurd. In addition to being a Charleston City Paper Staff Pick at the 2012 Charleston Comedy Festival, Phat Beethoven has also appeared at the 2012 Chicago Sketchfest, the 2012 NC Comedy Arts Festival, the 2011 Big Little Comedy Festival, Wake Forest University, and The Comedy Zone in Charlotte, NC.
