Washington Saxophone Quartet
Not your usual saxophone fare! WsaxQ offers a toast to the season with works from 1600 to the 1950s. Known for their sensitivity and consummate musicianship, their dexterous touch on saxophones creates a world of tonality unexpected in the instrument. The instruments evoke the refined sounds of a string quartet, the rich harmonies of an organ prelude, and the excitement of a jazz sax section. For the Music in Corrales performance this superb ensemble covers pieces as different as a Giovanni Gabrieli Canzona, J.S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, and selections from West Side Story.
