Jose Garces - Latin Road Home Dinner
This October, Lake Isle Press will release The Latin Road Home, the second cookbook from Iron Chef and James Beard Award winner Chef Jose Garces. The Latin Road Home (Lake Isle Press, $35.00, October 2012, Hardcover) is at once a cookbook, a travelogue and a memoir, offering a fascinating and personal look back at the food traditions that have shaped his life and cooking, from his family's ancestral home in Ecuador to his ongoing work as an award-winning chef and restaurateur across the USA.
To celebrate, Chef Garces will prepare and serve a special Latin Road Home Dinner at JG Domestic (2929 Arch Street, 215-222-2363) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9. This meal ($125 + ticket service fee) will feature dishes from each of the book's five chapters: Ecuador; Spain; Cuba; Mexico; and Peru at stations throughout the restaurant, each manned by talented members of Chef Garces' culinary team.
Guests will enjoy five distinct food stations serving some of his favorite dishes from the cookbook, including: an Emapanda Bar (Ecuador), where the stuffed pastries will be fried fresh to order; Lechón Asado, achiote and citrus-marinated roast suckling pig, with traditional accompaniments such as moros y cristianos, black beans and rice, and tostones, fried sweet plantains (Cuba); a Taco Bar, including poached chicken ropa vieja and rajas con hongos, or roasted poblano peppers with mushrooms, onions and garlic (Mexico); a Ceviche Bar, including ceviche de corvina with leche de tigre and pickled red pearl onions and ceviche de pargo con salsa de maracuyá, pink snapper ceviche with passion fruit, citrus and fresno chiles (Peru); and an interactive Dessert Bar (Spain).
